  • Zhū Zǐqiáo 朱子橋 was born here in 1874 (Tóngzhì 同治 13) in Lìchéng County 歷城縣
  • European assignment of Germany's holdings in this province to Japan under the terms of the Treaty of Versailles in June 1919 led to the start of the May Fourth Movement. Ownership was given back to China in 1922.
  • Kāng Yǒuwéi 康有為 was poisoned here in 1927 in Qīngdǎo 青島
