Zhōngnán shān 終南山 is a mountain range south of Xī'ān 西安. For a millennium-and-a-half it has been a favorite retreat for all types of hermits.

- Xūyún 虛雲 (mid 19th century??)
- The Living Buddha of Jīnshān 金山活佛 grew up near here, and as a young man he often visited Xūyún 虛雲 at his hut
- Yuèxiá 月霞 (1882 - ~1888)
- Yěkāi 冶開 (late 19th century)
- Láiguǒ 來果 (briefly in the early 1910s)
