如是我聞:一時佛在王舍城 靈鷲山 迦蘭陀竹林


彼時犢子梵志往詣佛所,問訊佛已,在一面坐,白佛言:

「瞿曇!一切眾生為有我不?」

佛默然不答。又問:

「為無我耶?」

佛亦不答。爾時犢子作是念:

「我曾數問沙門瞿曇如是之義,默不見答。」

爾時阿難侍如來側,以扇扇佛。彼時阿難聞其語已,即白佛言:

「世尊!何故犢子所問默然不答?若不答者,犢子當言: 『我問如來,都不見答。』 增邪見耶?」

佛告阿難:

「於先昔彼問一切諸法:『若有我者。』吾可答彼。犢子所問,吾於昔時寧可不於一切經說無我耶?以無我故,答彼所問,則違道理。所以者何?一切諸法,皆無我故。云何以我而答於彼?若然者,將更增彼昔來愚惑。復次──阿難!──若說有我,即墮常見;若說無我,即墮斷見。如來說法捨離二邊,會於中道。以此諸法壞故不常,續故不斷。不常不斷,因是有是。因是生故,彼則得生;若因不生,則彼不生。是故因於無明,則有行生。因行故,有識。因識故,有名色。因名色故,有六入。因六入故,有觸。因觸故,有受。因受故,有愛。因愛故,有取。因取故,有有。因有故,有生。因生故,有老、死、憂、悲、苦、惱,眾苦聚集因是,故有果滅。無明滅,則行滅。行滅,則識滅。識滅,則名色滅。名色滅,則六入滅。六入滅,則觸滅。觸滅,則受滅。受滅,則愛滅。愛滅,則取滅。取滅,則有滅。有滅,則生滅。生滅,則老、死、憂、悲、苦、惱,眾苦聚集滅盡,則大苦聚滅。」


佛說是已,諸比丘聞佛所說,歡喜奉行。

時有婆蹉種出家來詣佛所,合掌問訊,問訊已,退坐一面,白佛言:

「云何,瞿曇!為有我耶?」

爾時世尊默然不答。如是再三,爾時世尊亦再三不答。爾時婆蹉種出家作是念:

「我已三問沙門瞿曇,而不見答,但當還去。」

時尊者阿難住於佛後,執扇扇佛。爾時阿難白佛言:

「世尊!彼婆蹉種出家三問,世尊何故不答?豈不增彼婆蹉種出家惡邪見,言沙門不能答其所問?」

佛告阿難:

「我若答言有我,則增彼先來邪見;若答言無我,彼先癡惑豈不更增癡惑?言先有我從今斷滅。若先來有我則是常見,於今斷滅則是斷見。如來離於二邊,處中說法,所謂是事有故是事有,是事起故是事生,謂緣無明行,……乃至生、老、病、死、憂、悲、惱苦滅。」


佛說此經已,尊者阿難聞佛所說,歡喜奉行!

Ānandasuttaṃ

Atha kho vacchagotto paribbājako yena bhagavā tenupasaṅkami; upasaṅkamitvā bhagavatā saddhiṃ sammodi. Sammodanīyaṃ kathaṃ sāraṇīyaṃ vītisāretvā ekamantaṃ nisīdi. Ekamantaṃ nisinno kho vacchagotto paribbājako bhagavantaṃ etadavoca– “kiṃ nu kho, bho gotama, atthattā”ti? Evaṃ vutte, bhagavā tuṇhī ahosi. “Kiṃ pana, bho gotama, natthattā”ti? Dutiyampi kho bhagavā tuṇhī ahosi. Atha kho vacchagotto paribbājako uṭṭhāyāsanā pakkāmi.

Atha kho āyasmā ānando acirapakkante vacchagotte paribbājake bhagavantaṃ etadavoca– “kiṃ nu kho, bhante, bhagavā vacchagottassa paribbājakassa pañhaṃ puṭṭho na byākāsī”ti? “Ahañcānanda, vacchagottassa paribbājakassa ‘atthattā’ti puṭṭho samāno ‘atthattā’ti byākareyyaṃ, ye te, ānanda, samaṇabrāhmaṇā sassatavādā tesametaṃ saddhiṃ [var] abhavissa. Ahañcānanda, vacchagottassa paribbājakassa ‘natthattā’ti puṭṭho samāno ‘natthattā’ti byākareyyaṃ, ye te, ānanda, samaṇabrāhmaṇā ucchedavādā tesametaṃ saddhiṃ abhavissa. Ahañcānanda, vacchagottassa paribbājakassa ‘atthattā’ti puṭṭho samāno ‘atthattā’ti byākareyyaṃ, api nu me taṃ, ānanda, anulomaṃ abhavissa ñāṇassa uppādāya– ‘sabbe dhammā anattā”’ti? “No hetaṃ, bhante”. “Ahañcānanda, vacchagottassa paribbājakassa ‘natthattā’ti puṭṭho samāno ‘natthattā’ti byākareyyaṃ sammūḷhassa, ānanda, vacchagottassa paribbājakassa bhiyyo sammohāya abhavissa– ‘ahuvā me nūna pubbe attā, so etarahi natthī”’ti.
